Pope Francis’ Official Cause of Death Revealed

Pope Francis, the 266th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, passed away at the age of 88 on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025.
The Vatican confirmed that his death was due to a cerebral stroke, which led to a coma and irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse. This was compounded by multiple pre-existing health conditions, including pneumonia, bronchiectasis, hypertension, and type II diabetes.

Despite his declining health, Pope Francis made a surprise appearance during the Easter Mass at Saint Peter's Square, just a day before his passing. His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from global leaders and the faithful, honoring his dedication to the Church and his efforts to promote inclusivity and reform.

The Pope's funeral is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Square, Vatican City. In accordance with his wishes, he will be buried at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome, breaking with centuries of papal tradition.

A conclave of cardinals will convene within the next 15 to 20 days to elect his successor, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Catholic Church.
